While the focus is on oil painting, the design focus is relevant for other paint mediums. This is not an introductory class.

No materials charge for those who bring their own paints and brushes.
$40 oil painting supply bag available should artists need supplies.
Students painting in other mediums, such as acrylics, should bring their own paints.
2 canvas panels will be provided. Alternatively, students may bring one or more canvases of a size and type of their choosing.

About the instructor:
Currently the adult painting instructor of all mediums at Cordovan Arts, Arnica is a fine artist and graphic designer. She was an honors graduate of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin in 2001. Now it’s time to share what she has learned over the intervening years. Arnica has produced work for book covers and movie posters and has also displayed and sold paintings, prints, and other artworks in Austin, TX and elsewhere for decades. She has been in a multitude of group and solo exhibitions in several states. She loves getting together with others and having a good time in the making of fun fine art. Arnica is currently affiliated with the Austin Visual Arts Association, the Port Aransas Art Center, Plein Air Austin, Plein Air Round Rock, and the San Marcos Art League.

As a result of her many years in the field of fine arts, including her education and experience, Arnica is adept at teaching all levels of students, especially in regards to her patience with beginners. I learned useful info about supplies (what to use and not use), what and how to mix colors, 3D and depth techniques, brush techniques and much more. She promotes a fun learning environment and she inspires the creative artist within. I highly recommend her classes.” -Kandace S.

“Arnica taught her beginners’ oil painting class at Round Rock Arts this month. All of the students painted a pear the first week and a landscape the following week. And everyone’s painting looked wonderful and very different! Arnica bonded beautifully with ALL of her students.

Arnica’s next class, which runs February 2 and 9, three hours a day, from 1:00-4:00, is on designing your painting. It is open to all painting mediums. What makes one painting sing, but a similar painting remain silent? What is the psychology behind effective layout, color, perspective, even brush strokes? This is not a lecture class. Students will paint each day, applying the concepts learned. The time has been changed to start at 1:00, allowing all to grab lunch. Registration for this class closes on Thursday, January 30, at 12:05 am. That is this week!!!” -Dale Ricklefs, President, Round Rock Arts
